First Stage of "From those you saved" Contest Closes

The "From those you saved" contest is based on the concept of remembering Poles who resecued Jews during the German occupation. The first stage of this contest has now closed. On 15th January at the Museum POLIN, over 100 submitted projects were considered to select five finalists who will be announced on 5th February.

The contest is aimed at commissioning the design for a monument commemorating Poles who saved Jews during World War II. It is organised by the Foundation for Remembrance and the Future. The monument is to be erected in the Warsaw suburb of Muranów, near the Museum POLIN.

Those who are selected to proceed to State 2 will prepare a realistic project concept. The eventual winner will be announced, by the judging panel, in April 2015. The monument must then be completed by autumn 2015.

The Stage 1 results will be announced at 5:00 pm on 4th February at Museum POLIN. At 6:00 pm on the same day, the work of those selected to go on to Stage 2 will go on display. There will also be a screening of the documentary "From those you saved" directed by Gabriel von Seltmann. At 7:00 pm, a debate on the Righteous will take place featuring Sigmund Rolat, Konstanty Gebert, Beata Chomątowska, Witold Lisowski and Michał Bilewicz. The debate will be moderated by Adam Szostkiewicz.

The initiator of the proec is Sigmund Rolat. Judging panel chairman is Milada Ślizińska.
