Wanda Załuska Passes Away
Wanda was born on 1st May 1913 in Krakurodziła się 1 maja 1913 r. w Krakow. She graduated from the Ursuline Sisters High School in Krakow and studied the History of Art at the Jagiellonian University.
Despite her jewish background, she was not sent to a ghetto during World War II. She left for Warsaw and, under a false name, was active in the underground. She supplied Jews with aryan papers. She led children out of the Warsaw ghetto and found them hiding places. She survived a round-up and returned to her home city, where she hid until the Soviets entered.
After the War, together with her husband, she settled in Warsaw where she worked in the Head Office of the Directorate of Museums and Monuments. Later, she worked as Director of Artistic Education in the Ministry of Culture and Art. After 1968, she worked in the National Museum in Warsaw.
In April 2013, the Polish President honoured her with the Commander’s Cross of the order of Polish Revival.
The funeral mass will take place on 10th February 2015 at 2:00 pm at St.Vicent de Paul church in Warsaw
