Year of Henryk Sławik Commemorations in Śląsk Province

In connection with the Śląsk Province’s Year of Henryk Sławik, the Provincial authorities will tomorrow announce details of the final plans for a program of commemorative events.

 

It is already known that on Wednesday, 16th July 2014, Henryk Sławik’s 120th birthday, a holy mass will be conducted at All Saints Church in Jastrzębie-Zdroj (Sławik’s birthplace) and a commemorative plaque will ne unveiled.

 

On 21st August, there will be a relay Race for Peace in which 10 member teams will take part. The relay run will end on 23rd August on the site where Henryk Sławik perished - the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp. Over the three days, participants will cover 462 kilometres.

 

A film docu-drama with the working title of The Daddy of All Poles – Friendship in Death and Life, telling the story of Henryk Sławik, is being supported by the Office of the Speaker of the Śląsk Provincial Parliament. The premiere of the film is planned for September of this year.

 

From the 18th July, an exhibition entitled Henryk Sławik – the Forgotten Hero of Three Nations will go on show at the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary ,Syberce in Będzin (ul. 9 Maja 2).
