Workshops on Irena Sendler

KJ, 16 November 2016
On 15th May 2013, in conjunction with the ceremony in which a lane near the Museum was named in honour of Irena Sendler, the Museum’s Education Department, together with The Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History project,  organised workshops for students from three schools named after Irena Sendler.

Their theme was Irena Sendler and her activities during World War II. The workshops, held in the Museum’s Education Centre, were conducted by Jagna Kofta. Thirty students took part from Junior High Schools No.63 and 23, and from Private Junior High School No.1.

The subjects included the activities of Irena Sendler and the phenomenon of saving Jews during the Holocaust. Students were then set a task of creating and writing messages flowing from the life and attitudes of the heroine, utilising the letters in her name. The resultant works were accompanied by artistic pieces. The students’ creations were interesting, stemming as they did from their own concepts of Irena Sendler.

All students who participated in the workshops, as well as those who took part in the later naming ceremony of the lane (together 100 people), were then shown around the Museum. They also received gifts from the Office of the President of the Poland.
