The 70th anniversary of the commencement of the liquidation action in the Warsaw Ghetto
The ceremonies will start at noon with an official opening of pictures by artists from the Warsaw Ghetto, which are part of the Ringelblum Archive’s collection. The exhibition, entitled "Dziennik Getta – Rysunki. Z Podziemnego Archiwum Getta Warszawskiego", will be displayed at Projekt Kordegarda and will present five drawings by a nameless Jewish artist called Rozenfeld and Witold Lewinson’s drawing called ‘Głód’. The exhibition will be accompanied by Mirosław Bałka’s contemporary video projection entitled ‘apple.T.’, which was in the former Treblinka concentration camp. Additionally, there will be a symbolic slice of bread baked according to the ghetto recipe. A daily food ration was about 140 gram. The exhibition received honorary patronage of Polish President Bronisław Komorowski and the Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak.
At 5 pm, at Umschlagplatz, a march will start to commemorate the youngest victims of the Shoah and bring the remembrance of their caregiver Janusz Korczak, who did not leave the children on their last journey to Treblinka. At the beginning of the march, each of the attendees will be given a band with one name of the killed children. Some bands will be blank to recall anonymous Holocaust victims. The participants will be able to write the names of their relatives who perished during the war. At the end of the march, the bands will be hung at the Children’s Home no 2, named after Janusz Korczak, forming a contemporary symbolical monument to the youngest victims of the Holocaust. T
he ceremonies will be closed by the ‘Ohel Warszawa’ outdoor concert, which will take place on Bohaterów Getta St, near Krasiński park.
