THE RIGHTEOUS IRENA GWOZDOWICZ DIES
On 6th November, in Mieścika, 90 year old Irena Gwozdowicz passed away. She was a Righteous Among the Nations.
By profession, Irena Gwozdowicz was a teacher. During the occupation, together with her parents, she helped her Jewish neighbours when, in 1941, they ended up in the Bursztyn ghetto. The Gwozdowicz family saved their little daughter, Lusia, taking her into their home in Przemyśl.
In 1988, Irena Gwozdowicz, her mother Matylda and sister Helena were honoured as Righteous Among the Nations. In 2009, Polish President Lech Kaczyński awarded Irena the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polish Renewal.
