History and Life – a historical competition
The competition entitled ‘Historia i Życie’ (History and Life) aims to draw the attention of young people to national and cultural diversity, which has shaped our identity over the course of centuries. As in previous years, the competition enjoys the honorary patronage of Prof. Władysław Bartoszewski and the Polish Minster of National Education. The Historical Institute of the University of Białystok has given content-related support. This year the event has partnered with the Museum of the History of Polish Jews with the Virtual Shtetl and Polish Righteous Internet portals. The competition is addressed to senior high school students from 16-19 years old.
Participants must submit a written piece of work that deals with one of five suggested topics. The essay should comprise collected information, interviews and source materials. Entered works may be done individually or in teams. All participants have a chance to win prizes and an invitation for the final competition gala, which will be held in the new building of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in September 2013.
The competition was launched during the 2002/2003 school term by the founder of the Historia i Życie publisher. The first three editions were organized by Historia i Życie and Wiedza i Praktyka publishing houses. After a three-year break, thanks to the Wiedza i Praktyka foundation & publishing house, the competition was resumed.
