Stanisław Frybes, a Righteous, Passes Away
Righeous Among the Nations, Professor Stanisław Frybes, died on 27th January 2013, at the age of 90.
Stanisław Frybes was born in 1922 Stanisławów in the Kresy region. During the War, he lived in Warsaw and, even though he was barely 16 years old, he was active in the underground. He provided help to Jews who were in hiding on the “Aryan side” for which, in 1997, he was honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. More on his story can be found here.
He was a historian of 19th century Lwów literature and press. He lectured at Warsaw University and was Director of that university’s Polonicum and of the Polish Cultural Centre at the Sorbonne.
The funeral mass took place on 5th February, at 1:00 pm, at St.Karol Boromeusz’s church in Warsaw (Powązki).
