XVIth Judaism Day in Catholic Churches
The aim of Judaism Day is to deepen interfaith dialogue. Each year, events are organised in different cities, this year the main celebration taking place in Opole. These included prayers, meetings, and discussions, as well as numerous cultural events in various Polish towns.
In Opole, both Christians and Jews met with City Councillors. Among the participants were the Israeli Ambassador to Poland, Zvi Rav-Ner, and the Chief Rabbi of Poland, Rabbi Michael Schudrich.
In Warsaw, Judaism Day was celebrated in the Środowisk Twórczych Church. During the Evening Mass, the liturgy was read in both Polish and Hebrew. During the service, reflections on the biblical text were given by Rabbi Staś Wojciechowicz and Rev.Dr. Andrzej Tulej, Warsaw Archdiocese delegate with specific responsibility for dialogue with Judaism. A dissertation of the Holy Scriptures was given by auxiliary bishop of the Warsaw Diocese, Tadeusz Pikus.
As part of this year’s celebrations, the Warsaw Jewish Community Council organised an Open Day, on Sunday 20th January, at the Nożyk Synagogue. The program for the event can be viewed here.
