PREMIERE OF THE FILM “THE RESCUED”
The heroes of the film are Polish Jews rescued from the Holocaust. Today, they are elderly residents of Poland and Israel. They speak dramatically of their wartime fate and how they also witnessed the best in humanity – its devotion and goodness, as well as the meanness and evil lying dormant within it. The stars of the film are two ladies - Jadwiga Rytlowa and Janina Goldhar – volunteers for “The Polish Righteous – Restoring Memory” project, part of which includes interviewing people saved from the Holocaust. Filming took place in Israel in 2010
The premiere screening of “The Rescued” generated huge interest. An audience of about 500 people attended the screening at the auditorium of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Many more than the capacity wished to see the flm.
Following the screening, a meeting took place featuring the stars of the film as well as its directors. The heroes spoke of the beginnings of their work with “The Polish Righteous – Restoring Memory” project. As an educational mission, it attracted them to become involved in this research project. They stressed the historical value in collecting the stories of those rescued from the Holocaust – the documented interviews of the dramatic fate of people who, in some cases, had been totally forgotten for many years. These collected life stories now have the opportunity of being passed on to future generations. They also spoke of their friendship which had lasted many years. The meeting was chaired by Monika Koszyńska.
