Television interview with the Righteous, Maria Lebiedzińska
A regional online television from Otwock, Linia TV, conducted an interview with Maria Lebiedzińska, a Righteous among the Nations. Asked about the wartime period, Lebiedzińska recalls her memories about the outbreak of the war and the German occupation years. She talks about the help she provided to a Jewish woman, Alicja Margulies.
Maria Lebiedzińska was a nurse and member of the Home Army. During World War II, she helped Alicja Margulies, a Jewish woman who lived under the name Zawadzka. During the greatest time of danger, Maria hid Alicja in a room she rented in Warsaw, and later found work and an apartment for her. Alicja survived the war. Both women are still alive and have remained in contact throughout the years, although Alicja emigrated to Israel in the 1950s.
We encourage you to see the interview with Maria Lebiedzińska conducted in 2009 for our project Polish Righteous – Restoring Memory.
