Memory March in Otwock

Maria Zawadzka, 16 November 2016
This year will be celebrated the 69th anniversary of the extermination of Otwock Jews. Since 2002 the Social Committee of the Memory of Otwock and Karczew Jews has been organizing a memory march and prayers celebrating the anniversary of this tragic event. This event always takes place on August 19th.

The main goal of the organizers is to celebrate the tradition of a good and peaceful co-existence of Poles and Jews in Otwock. The symbol of this co-existence are 40 people connected with Otwock, honored by the Yad Vashem Insitute with the title “Righteous Among the Nations”. Among them are Irena Sendler, raised in Otwock, and the Otwock parish priest Rev. Ludwik Wolski

This year’s celebrations included a memory march and Jewish and Catholic prayers, as well as a vernissage of the photos of Marian Domański. The meeting “Extermination of Otwock Jews – in the Confession by Calek Perechodnik” was held, organized in cooperation with the KARTA Center.
