Meeting with Lilka Rozenbaum-Elbaum

During the 8th Festival of Jewish Culture “Singer’s Warsaw”, starting on August 27th, 2011 will be held a meeting with Lilka Rozenbaum-Elbaum. This event will take place on August 28th at 3:00 pm. It will present the story of the trip taken by Lilka Elbaum in order to honor the Chorążkiewicz family  – who rescued her mother Maria Koper during the war – with the title “Righteous Among the Nations”.

Her efforts will be crowned on August 22nd, 2011 in Warsaw, when the ceremony of honoring the family with the Righteous title will be held.

Excerpts of Maria Koper’s diary written during the war will be read by Ernestyna Winnicka. The meeting will be moderated by Justyna Sobolewska. Joanna Zielińska, granddaughter of Mr and Ms Chorążkiewicz, will also participate in this event.

Lilka Elbaum was born in Poland. In 1968 she emigrated to Canada. She held various managerial positions both in the public and private sector – she was, among others, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade. In 1996 she moved to Boston, where she performed numerous functions, such as being Executive Director of the North American Council of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Lilka is also board member of the American Association of Polish Jewish Studies and a representative of the Shalom Foundation in the US.
