Warsaw Zoo’s 85th Birthday

KJ, 16 November 2016
Warsaw Zoo celebrates its 85th birthday in March.  To mark the occasion, an exhibition has been created on the history of the zoological garden. It will include the activities of its director (1928-1950), Jan Żabiński, a Righteous Among the Nations.  The preview of the exhibition will be held on 17th March 2013.

Jan Żabiński was the Zoo’s Director 1928, almost from the beginning of the Zoo’s existence.  He was an outstanding zoologist and promoted a knowledge of nature.  During the occupation, together with the wife Antonia, he hid a dozen or so Jews from the Warsaw ghetto in the Zoo.  After the war, the Żabiński family were honoured as Righteous Among the Nations. Read more about the Żabiński family.

The Eighty Five Years of the Warsaw Zoo exhibition is open in the Wileński Shopping Centre in Warsaw.
