On December 18th, 2010 in the evening unknown perpetrators threw bricks at the apartment of Tomasz Pietrasiewicz, founder and director of the “Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre” Center.

The “Grodzka Gate” is a cultural institution with its seat in Lublin. Its main goal is to protect the cultural heritage of the region and provide education, as well as gather materials connected with the Jewish inhabitants of Lublin. One of the initiatives of this institution is the project “Lights in the Darkness – Righteous Among the Nations”.

On August 28th, 2010 as part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nationsduring the “Singer’s Warsaw” festival, Tomasz Pietrasiewicz was decorated for his activity for the Society.

Swastikas have been painted on the bricks thrown at his apartment. A banger was attached to one of the bricks – it exploded inside the apartment.

“For the first time of my life I felt like the Jews whose windows were smashed. Apart from the fear, you feel a terrible helplessness. But I am not planning to change anything in my life, to put bars in my windows or to move out because that’s exactly what those who painted the swastikas would want” – said Tomasz Pietrasiewicz.

Marcin Kornak, chairman of the antifascist association “Never Again” expresses alarm over the racist and anti-Semitic events, that have become more numerous this year. Kornak also claims that the attack on Tomasz Pietrasiewicz is a terrorist attack directed against a public figure.
