On January 27th, 2011, on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, is celebrated the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this occasion at 7 pm TVP Warszawa will screen the film “The Holocaust in the eyes of a child” (2008).

The originator of this multimedia-educational project produced by the Shalom Foundation was Gołda Tencer. The authors of the screenplay are Wiesława Młynarczyk, Bogusław Jędruszczak and Robert Szuchta.

The film presents the stories of Jewish children during the Second World War. The children describe their experiences in the ghetto, among others their humiliation, loneliness, hunger, the surrounding death, but also the short moments of happiness. Their accounts are also devoted to their lives in hiding, in underground bunkers which they often didn’t leave for months.

The film “The Holocaust in the eyes of a child” is mainly aimed at high school students. Robert Szuchta, one of the screenwriters, said during one of his meetings with young people: “The educational value of this film lies mostly in the fact that children tell other children about the war”.

In the presentation were used pictures from the collections of the Shalom Foundation, the Jewish Historical Institute, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, and the Educational Files of the Institute of National Remembrance, entitled “Auschwitz. Memory for the Future” and “Extermination of Polish Jews during the Second World War”.
