Memory and action: conference „Language-Culture-Religion”
The inaugural lectures were given by Dr. Maciej Tomal and Dr. Adam Lipszyc. The conference was closed by the panel discussion entitled “Jews in Poland – Culture of memory/Action in culture. Theory, practice, demands and accomplishments”.
The program of the conference included numerous lectures. Among the participants were:Anna Makarowa (Polish Academy of Sciences), Agata Kondrat (University of Warsaw), Magdalena Kozłowska (Jagiellonian University), Anna Kawałko (University of Warsaw), Agnieszka Ilwicka (University of Southampton), Marta Duch (Jagiellonian University).
In the panel discussion participated Dr Karolina Szymaniak (Center for Yiddish Culture), Dr. Jacek Leociak (Museum of the History of Polish Jews) and Alicja Beryt (JCC Kraków).
The session “Literature” was opened by Jacek Dehnel who presented the traps encountered by authors of modern books about the Holocaust.
Martyna Nowicka (Jagiellonian University) gave the lecture “Creating memory. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust in visual arts”.
The conference was organized by the “Pilpul” Interdisciplinary Club for Jewish Culture Research of the Oriental Faculty of the Warsaw University.
The Forum was supposed to create a space enabling the exchange of views and presenting the results of research devoted to Jewish culture.
Among the subjects brought up at the conference were issues connected with law, memory, history, Yiddish language, visual arts and identity.
The conference was held under the patronage of: the Shalom Foundation, the Galicia Jewish Museum, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the JCC Kraków, the Jewish Historical Institute and the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland.
