Awarding Ceremony in Rzeszów
On Tuesday, January 17, in Rzeszów the Israeli Ambassador to Poland Zvi Rav-Ner posthumously awarded Katarzyna Sikora, Stanisław Grocholski and Józef Kulpawith the title “Righteous Among the Nations”. The distinctions were presented by the survivors or their family members to the relatives of the late heroes.
From 1943 till the end of World War II Katarzyna Sikora was taking care of four fugitives from the ghetto in Rzeszów, among them Moniek Kalb, Shalom Friedhof and Adolf Berger. Stanisław Grocholski from Urzejowice (close to Przeworsk) and his wife Anna hid 16 Jews at the attic while Józef Kulpa from Ostrowiec (close to Lubaczów), a soldier of the Home Army, saved the Łukawiecki and Singer families, among others. Their joined the squad of Jewish partisans formed by Józef Kulpa.
