On December 9th, 2010 at the Mamele Club in Warsaw was held the ceremony of the awarding of the “Honorary Righteous” distinctions by the Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations.

Among those who were decorated this year was Ewa Wierzyńska, director of the project  “Jan Karski – Unfinished Mission”, co-creator of the program “Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History” of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and several years’ deputy director of this institution.

Apart from Ewa Wierzyńska, the distinction “Honorary Righteous” was awarded to Piotr Kadlčik– since 2001 chairman of the Warsaw Jewish Community and since 2003 chairman of the Jewish Communities Union in the Republic of Poland – and Zbigniew Niżyński from the Council of Christians and Jews.

The Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations was founded in 1985. Its members are Polish citizens who have been honored with the title and medal of Righteous Among the Nations.

The goals of the society are to disseminate information about the occupation, the Holocaust and the actions of the Righteous, and to fight against anti-Semitism and xenophobia.

One of the central components of their work is to meet with young people and to talk to them about the Nazi occupation and their personal stories during those years. More about the Polish Society of the Righteous Among the Nations
