A Righteous Honoured in Wrocław

, 16 November 2016
On Friday, 25th October, ninety seven year old Bronisława Golonka and (posthumously) her husband Jan were honoured as Righteous Among the Nations. During World War II, the couple rescued a Jewish family of five.

The ceremony conferring the title was held in Bronisława Golonka’s apartment in Wrocław. One participant was Max Halpern, one of those rescued by the Golonka family. The Halpern family found shelter in the family farm. In the barn, the Golonka family dug a deep four-sided hole, covering it with boards. The Halpern family remained there for over half a year, until being liberated by the Red Army.
