Fire in the Irena Sendler Secondary School in Sianów
In the rescue operation participated ten fire engines of the State Fire Service from Koszalin, as well as a few units of the Voluntary Fire Service from the surrounding towns. The fire was put out by 13 groups – about 50 people.
Piotr Skrzypiński, press officer of the Koszalin Fire Service reported that the firemen must remove the partially burnt constructional elements that risk to collapse. The fire already caused the collapse of the roof and the ceiling above the main hall.
A session of the District Council was immediately convened. The decision was unanimously taken to grant the Irena Sendler Secondary School in Sianów 100 thousand zlotys for immediate needs.
The mayor Ryszard Wątroba wants to ask for help the Prime Minister, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the province and district authorities, the education office, local Members of Parliament and senators.
The reconstruction of the school will last almost a year. The conservation officer will decide whether the school will be reconstructed in the same style in which was built the rest of the 19th century edifice.
The tragedy moved the students of the school, their parents and the whole local community.
Since last year, the patron of the school is Irena Sendler, Righteous Among the Nations, activist of the underground Council to Aid Jews “Żegota”, who saved 2,500 children during the Second World War.
The children she helped rescue were brought out from the Warsaw ghetto onto the so-called Aryan Side. They received false papers and were placed in Polish orders, orphanages and families.
Irena Sendler was awarded with the title of the Righteous Among the Nations in 1965. In 2007 the Righteous was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. She passed away on May 12, 2008 in Warsaw, at the age of 98. More about Irena Sendler on the portal "Polish Righteous".

We are collecting money for the reconstruction and equipment of the burnt school. The money can be deposited at the special account of the Council of Parents of the Secondary School in Sianów:

The donations will be collected in specially marked collection boxes in the District and Town of Sianów. In November or December street collections will be organized to raise money for this goal.
