A seminar in memory of Henryk Sławik
The seminar was organized by the Jagiellonian University’s Center for Holocaust Studies, the Institute of European Studies and the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum.
The main objective of the seminar was commemorating the heroic actions of Henryk Sławik and the actions of other Polish Righteous, now regrettably forgotten. An important item was also the presentation of the history of organized opposition against the Nazi regime and of the wartime experiences of Poles who rescued Jews.
The seminar was attended by accomplished scientists and educators (from the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Institute of Remembrance, and the Museum of History of Polish Jews, among others), representatives of non-governmental organizations, diplomats, Grzegorz Łubczyk – the author of a biography of Henryk Sławik, and directors of documentaries about him. The introductory lecture was presented by Professor Feliks Tych.
As part of the seminar, Deputy Director of the Museum of History of Polish Jews, Ewa Wierzyńska, presented the program of the Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History project.
