Movie about Irena Sendler attracted 10 million viewers
CBS aired the film in prime time - at 9 PM ET. Desperate Housewives came in first, with 13 million viewers. The Nielsen Media group's research shows The Courageous Heart was most popular among older people. In the 49 year-old-and-younger-group it was only fourth.
The movie tells the story of Irena Sendler's heroism- she arranged smuggling Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto and hiding them on the Aryan side. Thanks to her actions 2500 children were saved.
"The Courageous heart of Irene Sendler" received very good reviews from the American press- maybe except the harshly critical one from the Newy York Times.
According to the Polish Press Agency (PAP) information, we read on www.wyborcza.pl that the movie is supposed to come to Polish movie theaters this fall, and the and the Polish Television (Telewizja Polska) will air the movie in three episodes next year. Yet again word of the heroic Irena Sendler will come to Poland from the USA.
However, according to the Gazeta Wyborcza journal from April 9th 2009, the fate of the movie in Poland is still uncertain, because the president of the Polish Television Piotr Farfał refused to sign a previously negotiated agreement with the Americans. The Ministry of Culture decided to offer financial support instead.
