The Order for Bronisław Marchlewicz
The Order was handed over to Zbigniew Marchlewicz, the son of the honored.
Lieutenant Bronisław Marchlewicz (1899-1972) was the head of a police station in Otwock during the World War II. At the same time, he was active in an anti-Nazi resistance movement – among others as an officer in the Polish Home Army, nickname “Śmiały”. Risking his own life and lives of his dearest, he stood up for the oppressed people in Otwock many times – both for Poles, and for Jews. He saved many people from being arrested, taken away to concentration camps and from other oppressions.
On November 21, 2004, Yad Vashem Institute awarded Bronisław Marchlewicz with the title of the Righteous Among the Nations. The medal was handed over to his son in July 2005.
