The convention of schools named after Irena Sendler
We present the program of the convention below:
Tuesday, 16 February
Arrival in Warsaw, dinner, checking in the hotel
1. 3–6 pm — integration activities in the 23rd Irena Sendler Junior High School: a meeting with Mrs. Janina Zgrzembska, Irena Sendler’s daughter, and Mrs. Anna Mieszkowska, an author of a book about this Righteous,
• visiting the Irena Sendler Hall,
• watching a documentary,
• integration workshops,
• going back to the hotel by coach.
Wednesday, 17 February
1. 8–8:45 am — visiting the Powązki Cemetery
2. 9:00 am — a meeting with Mr. Marek Michalak, the Ombudsman for Children
3. 11 am–12 pm — a ceremonial unveiling of a commemorative plaque at 2a Pawińskiego Street (formerly 1 Opaczewska Street) in Warsaw
4. 1–3:30 pm — an official gala in the Center of Cultural Promotion of the Praga Południe District (Centrum Promocji Kultury Pragi Południe):
• the official part, speeches by the guests,
• presenting the Irena Sendler schools,
• handing over the People Doing Good Things medal (“Ludziom czyniącym dobro”),
• a play by the students: “You don’t live to take” (“Życie nie po to jest, by brać”),
• a presentation of A. Wolf’s documentary about Irena Sendler,
• an auction of artistic works and gifts for the benefit of the Kids Shelter located at 1 Bonifacego Street in Warsaw,
• a photography exhibition “Following the Footsteps of Irena Sendler” (“Śladami Ireny Sendler”),
• lunch
1. 4–6 pm — workshops in the 23rd Junior High School: “Why is Irena Sendler our school’s patron?”, preparing materials for a joint bulletin
2. 6 pm — a play in the Kamienica Theater (Teatr Kamienica) or a visit in the Warsaw Rising Museum
Thursday, 18 February
8:30 am — a holy mass said for Irena Sendler in the Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn Sanctuary (Sanktuarium M.B. Ostrobramskiej), with the participation of the color guards
1. A trip “Following the Footsteps of Irena Sendler” (“Śladami Ireny Sendler”) — led by Mrs. Anna Mieszkowska; prepared in collaboration with the Museum of the History of Polish Jews
2. An assessment of the convention, farewell to the guests, departure from Warsaw
