Righteous Contest Finalists’ Projects Go On Show at Museum POLIN

KJ, 16 November 2016
The finalists have been selected in “From Those You Saved” project competition aimed at remembering those Poles who saved Jews during the German occupation. Their works went on display at the Museum POLIN on 4th February 2015. The display was accompanied by a debate centred on the Righteous Among the Nations. Final judging of the competition will take place next April.

Konstanty Gebert, a member of the Remembrance and Future Foundation, an organiser of the competition said, “The Righteous rescued the meaning of life in a world which had built crematoria. For this, we owe them unlimited gratitude”. Founder and benefactor of the remembrance project is Zygmunt Rolat, a Holocaust survivor, who sees the project as a way of thanking those Poles who rescued Jews during the occupation.

136 entries were submitted from 16 countries. The jury gave 22 of them an honourable mention, while 5 made it to the final of the competition with the winner being announced in April.

For stage two of the contest, finalists must prepare a realistic concept of their project. The new remembrance of Poles who saved Jews, which will be erected near the Museum POLIN, will be unveiled in autumn 2015. The display of finalists can be viewed at the Museum POLIN until the end of February.

Creators of the finalist projects are Andrzej Bulanda and Jadwiga Gajczyk, Grzegorz Dutka and Szymon Wróblewski, Eduard Freudmann and Gabu Heindl, Pedro Pena Jurado and Daniel Zarhy (Studio PEZ), as well as Mateusz Tański. The project submissions and descriptions can be viewed online at the competition’s website: www.raff.org.pl.

Along with the announcement of the finalists, From those you saved by Gabriela von Seltmann will screened. The film depicts stories of rescue told by the  Polish Righteous themselves.

Following the film, there will be a debate at the Museum POLIN, centred on the Righteous and will involve Zygmunt Rolat, Witold Lisowski, Konstanty Gebert, Beata Chomątowska (representing the Muranów Station Association) and Michał Bilewicz.
