The Righteous Anna Pasek and Her Family Posthumously Decorated by the State

On December 21st, 2009, the City Hall of Nowy Sącz hosted the ceremony of presenting the state decorations awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński for the heroism and exceptional courage shown in saving the lives of Jews during World War II and for outstanding achievements in defending human dignity and human rights to three deceased Polish Righteous Among the Nations.


By the Presidential decision of November 25th, 2009, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta was awarded to: Anna Pasek nee Sikoń (who passed away on December 2nd, 2009) and posthumously to Zofia Sikoń and Stanisław Miczynski. On behalf of the President the orders were presented by Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. Assisted by Ryszard Nowak, the Mayor of Nowy Sącz, the Secretary presented the orders to the relatives of the three heroes from the village of Łukowica near Nowy Sącz: Maria Daniel (the daughter of Zofia Sikoń), Stanisława Drzyzga, Jan Pasek, Marta Chrobaczyńska (the daughter and relatives of Anna Pasek), and Radomir Miczyński (the grandson of Stanisław Miczyński).

Apart from the families of the decorated, the ceremony in the City Hall was also attended by Anda Rottenberg and her grandchildren, as representatives of the family of the Rescued. The event was also attended by students from Nowy Sącz and the students of the Łukowica junior high school, which was the theater of the events honored by the ceremony.
