The ceremony of awarding thirteen Poles, who saved Jews, with medals and diplomas of the Righteous Among the Nations will take place on 10th September 2009 in Warsaw. Yad Vashem Institute honored posthumously Stanisława and Roman Kasprzak, Marianna Laska, Zofia and Piotr Golański, Helena and Julian Stolarski, Halina Soroczyńska and Stanisława Wieczorek. Also Zofia Bublik (daughter of the Kasprzak) and Stanisław Laska (son of Marianna) who are still alive, were honored.

The Kasprzak from Sokołów Podlaski had hidden a 6-year-old Jewish girl since 1943. The rescued girl Ruth Letan, now a professor, will decorate Zofia Bublik.

Marianna Laska, together with her son Stanisław, gave shelter to 11-year-old Miriam Finkielsztajn (now Chasson) in their house in Bełchatów near Łowicz. The survivor will present Stanisław Laska with his medal.

Izabella Kiernozicka and Helena Nowacka, both from Warsaw, helped the Leński family escape from the ghetto and hide on the so-called “aryan” side in 1943.

The Fuks family, consisting of 6 people, survived the Holocaust thanks to help from Zofia and Piotr Golański, and Helena and Julian Stolarski and their children. Piotr Golański denounced, was arrested and submitted to heavy tortures. He died from wounds after the war. The heroes’ children will be decorated by the survivor – Mrs. Aviva Osri.

Halina Soroczyńska helped her friend, Henryk Kot, whom she hid in her house in Krzemieniec in Wołyń.

Stanisława Wieczorek and her husband took care of a 15-year-old boy. Survivor prof. Dov Weissberg will hand the medal to the granddaughter of the Righteous, Danuta Włodarczyk.

Also, during the ceremony, Hanna Morawiecka will receive an honorary citizenship of Israel. Hanna Morawiecka is a Righteous Among the Nations. She helped her mother and sisters take care of fugitives from the Warsaw ghetto.
