Polish Artists Rescuing Jews – a New Virtual Exhibition
Poles, who saved Jews during the Holocaust, came from all sorts of places and were driven by differing motivations. For rescuing another person, each one risked their own life and the lives of their family members. Among Jews saved were well-known artists – writers, actors and musicians.
You are invited to view a new virtual exhibition which presents lesser known fragments from the lives of these famous figures who were saved.
The exhibition presents the stories of musician Mieczysław Fogg, writer Czesław Miłosz and his brother Andrzej, Jarosław and Maria Iwaszkiewicz, actor Aleksander Zelwerowicz and his daughter Helena, as well as that of painter Irena Zadarnowska. All these people contributed to the saving of Jews, mainly those coming from artistic circles.
The exhibition can be viewed on our website in both Polish and English languages.
The exhibition has been made possible by funding from the Norwegian Fund and the EOG through Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway.
