Jacek Leociak ”Life Saving. Stories of Jews and Poles.”
Jacek Leociak’s new book has been recently published by Wydawnictwo Literackie. The book analyses particular cases of Poles who were helping the hiding Jews during the World War II. The book presents different motivations of their behaviour: a human need to help as well as greed.
It is based on rich, well documented historical sources: testimonies, archival documents. It meticulously reconstructs the reality of that time – a complex historical, social, psychological context. It shows the moral dilemmas that accompanied the action of helping the Jews; it depicts the tragedies of both the savers and the saved ones.
Jacek Leociak- literature historian, lecturer in the Institute for Literary Researches, Polish Academy of Sciences, head of the postgraduate studies programme at the Institute for Literary Researches, Polish Academy of Sciences.
