Polish Senate about the Righteous
"The Senate of the Republic of Poland, commemorating this year's 65th anniversary of the death of Józef and Wiktoria Ulm from the village of Markowa in the Podkarpacie region who, for hiding eight Polish citizens of Jewish descent from the Szall and Goldman family, were killed along with the families they were hiding and seven children, one unborn, on March 24th 1944 by German gendarms, wishes to celebrate the memory of all Poles saving Jews during World War II.
(...) Many of the people who were devoted to saving their neighbors from the Jewish Nation, in their humility, did not want honors, commendation, official or unofficial gratitude: “(...) I wish – said Irena Sendler – to emphasize that we, the people who saved, aren't any heroes – these words are irritate me very much. On the contrary – i still have pangs of conscience that I have done so little”.
(...) The Senate of the Republic of Poland turns to the Polish citizens and state institutions to acknowledge the actions of the the Ulm family, Irena Sendler, Irena Gut, Henryk Sławik and many other Righteous as deserving a special place in the Poles' consciousness and memory. "
