Orders for Lucylla Kowalska and Wojciech Kowalski

On January 4th, 2010, the Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Wrocław, Wojciech Abramski, and by the Head of the Social Initiatives Office of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, Bożena Opioła, presented Lucylla Kowalska and Wojciech Kowalski with the Commander's Crosses of the Order of Polonia Restituta, awarded to the couple by Lech Kaczyński, the President of the Republic of Poland, in recognition for their heroism and exceptional courage in saving the lives of Jews during World War II and for outstanding achievements in defending human dignity and human rights. The ceremony took place in the Kowalski household, two weeks after Mr. Kowalski’s 100th birthday.
