The conference “Memory, Identity, Holocaust”

On 20th–21st September 2018 in Warsaw, POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews will host an international jubilee conference dedicated to Prof. Małgorzata Melchior – “Memory, Identity, Holocaust – New Research and Methodological Issues”. The conference is organised by POLIN Museum, the PAN Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, the Institute of Applied Social Sciences of Warsaw University and the IFiS PAN Holocaust Research Centre.

The themes of this conference are the mutual relations between the research of identity and collective memory, the Holocaust of the Jews and the qualitative methodology used for this purpose, with particular reference to biographical and in-depth interviews.

The conference's three thematic blocks are linked to the academic achievements of Prof. Małgorzata Melchior, a research fellow at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences of Warsaw University and a long-time collaborator with the IFiS PAN Holocaust Research Centre. She has been supervisor to masters and doctoral students, a mentor to young researchers and the author of works which, over the years, have inspired researchers who have studied the sociology of identity, the historiography of the Holocaust and memory based on the use of biographical interview.

The conference is organised by POLIN Museum, the PAN Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, the Institute of Applied Social Sciences of Warsaw University and the IFiS PAN Holocaust Research Centre. The conference will be held in the Polish and English languages (without simultaneous translations).
