Gala of the Righteous 2018
During the event, the names will be read out of those honoured, in 2018, with title of Righteous Among the Nations. Trees will be planted and symbolic stones will be dedicated to these people in Warsaw's Garden of the Righteous on Gen. Jan Jura-Gorzechowski Square. That event is planned for 18th June 2018.
The Righteous are those who defended human dignity during times of war and crime in the 20th and 21st centuries. In their honour, the 6th March was declared European Day of Remembrance of the Righteous. That decision was taken by the European Parliament in May 2012, at the initiative of the Italian International Garden of the RIghteous Committee (GARIWO). Thus, the concept of "Righteous" took on a universal meaning.
Since 2013, at the beginning of March, the History Meeting House and POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews has extended invitations to a ceremonial gala to remember those for whom human rights was more important than any country or any ideology.
On 4th March, the Chairman of the Warsaw Garden of the Righteous Committee, Zbigniew Gluza, announced the names of those people in whose honour trees will be planted in June and for whom commemorative stones will be unveiled. The figures of the Righteous will be presented by Maja Komorowska. The event will also feature a concert by the Acoustic Acrobats.
